Membership and Past Member Surveys and Call To Renew

A big thank you to our members who took the time to respond to our membership survey. We are reviewing the findings with our strategic positioning and communications committees to better serve our community and the cultural sector.

CHRC has also launched a past member survey. Should you receive an invitation to this survey after having received the invitation for the current member survey, our apologies and please disregard the past member survey. Long story short, many invert the organization name and organization contact name when renewing. This creates a duplicate entry that we don’t always catch and correct internally. Sorry for any inconvenience and please feel free to let us know if this happens to you, we’ll make the correction.

While we’re at it…membership renewal is under way! Please sign up or renew for 2023.

Board of Directors

CHRC thanks Zainub Verjee for your service to the organization’s Board of Directors. We are also pleased to welcome new Board members Donna Noonan and Kathleen Morris) to the group and to welcome back Richard Hornsby.

Student Work Placement Program

With the second year of CHRC delivering the Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) funded by Employment and Social Development Canada close to wrapping up, CHRC has subsidised 176 placements with close to $900,000 being awarded so far. Although CHRC is no longer accepting applications for this year, the 2023/2024 application form will be opening soon! Keep an eye out for our form this spring, with high demand we recommend applying as soon as possible.

Young Canada Works

The program funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage delivered several projects across the country, CHRC is happy to inform you that we are receiving job fund applications for the 2023-2024 intake and you are all invited to submit your application before January 20, 2023. For more information, please contact us via e-mail at info@culturalhrc.ca.

HR Matters

Belonging

2023 will see the publication of new HR Management Toolkit tools, Accessibility Considerations in the Arts and Asking for Accommodation. These short compositions are aimed to help organizations and individuals reflect on greater workforce and audience accessibility.

Ecoresponsibility policy

Working with and at the request of member organizations, CHRC has developed a template policy for organizations to go from zero to eco (at least, as far as they want to be).

Belonging and the ecoresponsibility policy template documents will be shared and discussed within CHRC’s Cross-Sectoral Recovery Roundtable group before larger dissemination.

Respectful Workplaces in the Arts

While the subsidized workshops are no longer available, CHRC’s resources are still available and current. Members can access CHRC’s help to ensure that policies correspond to the provincial or territorial expectations. What can we do to help?

Professional Development Workshops

Cultural Resilience: Using Innovation to Stabilize in Times of Crisis

CHRC is currently on the Creative City Network of Canada’s project’s second phase, offering professional training materials developed for arts and cultural organizations and individuals to apply key qualitative findings from the Phase One Report to their own operations.

These workshops are a specially-curated 3-hour session to serve your local arts organizations and individuals, as they look to create increased resilience in their operations after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees will learn about innovative approaches to stabilization and explore proven leadership approaches, and receive specific strategies and insights that can be applied to their future planning.

After the Ottawa launch in May, the tour has visited Burnaby, Saskatoon, Kelowna, Camrose, Whitehorse and Winnipeg. The tour continues with stops in Mississauga, Oakville, Québec City, Montreal, St John’s, Halifax and more. Email CHRC or CCNC to request to host or to know more about the tour itinerary.

TAMYC update

The Art of Managing Your Career (TAMYC) has completed the updated written material for 8 artistic disciplines, to provide emerging artists and cultural workers with the resources and practical information to better manage their careers. The newest edition should be available early 2023.

CHRC is also touring to deliver TAMYC Workshops! These are free workshops (funded by the Canada Council for the Arts) that are tailored for students heading into the job market and early-stage professionals who want to solidify their career in an artistic discipline.

If you are interested in being a co-host for a workshop, we have availability in the new year. Please contact Sofia Downing for booking inquiries, or for information on upcoming workshops.

So far, the presentations have been hosted in Gatineau, Ottawa, Charlottetown, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Winnipeg. We’re going across the country, be on the lookout for presentations in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador Nova Scotia and Nunavut. If your post-secondary education institution teaches any artistic discipline and would like to host or have your students participate, please let us know.
